What a fantastic job our scouts did on their campout this weekend! It was dubbed "Sink or Swim 2008" by the adult leaders. This was the first time that the scouts were completely on their own for setting up camp, cooking meals and tearing down camp. The adults were close by to make sure that safety rules were followed and to answer a couple of random cooking questions, but the scouts basically did it all on their own. Did they sink? NO! They definately swam!! Congratulations scouts on a job well done!

This campout will be a little different from other troop campouts. This is our first Sink or Swim Campout! Scouts will be responsible for setting up their own camp, cooking their own food and planning all their own activities. Adults will be keeping an eye on things to make sure that no one gets hurt, but that is all the adults will be doing. This is the scouts opportunity to show all that they have learned. We would like to remind everyone to take a moment to think about and say a prayer for the Scouts, their families, and leaders that were affected by the tornado at the Little Sioux Scout Ranch in Blencoe, Iowa (More information located HERE). These Scouts and Scouters were attending a Summer Camp just as we were when this tragedy occured. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all!
We also encourage everyone to review and become familiar with emergency procedures for situations like this. Because we also had the potential for severe weather on Wednesday night while we were at camp, we could have found ourselves in the same situation as the group in Iowa. Bob Hopper, the Executive Director of the Buffalo Trace Council, reminds us and discusses these procedures HERE.
Our Troop has just returned from the 2008 Summer Resource Camp at Old Ben Scout Reservation, and we had a great week. This is our second year at the Summer Resource Camp, and we are thankful that all of our Scouts and Leaders had the opportunity to attend this camp, enjoyed a great week of camp and activities, and that we all returned safely. A special thank you goes out to the staff that ran the camp for their tireless efforts and dedication to making this camp such a success!
All Scouts must have a complete Class A uniform to attend camp. There are no exceptions to this rule.
Scouts are not allowed to enter the Dining Hall for dinner without a Class A uniform and we do not have enough adults available to keep any Scout at the campsite while the rest of the troop is at the Dining Hall. This uniform is also required to attend all formal activities such as flag ceremonies and campfires.
A complete Class A uniform consists of:
Tan Scout Shirt with appropriate patches and shoulder loops
Green Pants and/or shorts
Green Scout belt
Green Scout socks (w/ the red stripe around the top)
Please pack your Class A uniform where you will be able to get to it on Sunday as we will be checking to make sure everyone has a complete uniform. If you are missing any pieces of your uniform, let someone know immediately so that we can help you get what you need.No one wants to be sent home from camp because they are missing socks!
A complete packing list was posted on May 7th. Please scroll down the page to see it.
